It is the go-to for anyone looking for plumper, more-hydrated skin.
This week, I test three new serums.
Budget
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, £8.80 for 30ml, boots.com: If you have tried this before and thought that you didn’t like it, the brand that brought one-ingredient skincare to the masses has updated the original formula for a consistency that is less sticky and has more benefits.
The Ordinary has added ceramides which help nourish dry skin.
I prefer the new texture – the lightweight consistency goes on like silk and absorbs almost instantly, which is great for applying make-up on top.
I didn’t expect to love this as much as I do.
It is definitely a new favourite.
Mid-range
Bioderma Hydrabio Hyalu+ hydrating face serum for dehydrated skin, £32 for 30ml, boots.com: You might recognise the brand Bioderma from its cult micellar water that is loved by industry experts and celebs alike.
But they also make a really impressive – and underrated – range of targeted skin treatments.
This hyaluronic acid serum also contains niacinamide, which is one of my favourite skincare actives thanks to its multitasking soothing and spot-fighting powers.
Sadly, I found this did leave my skin tacky and started pilling when I applied my moisturiser on top, which is a big no-no from me.
Luxury
Shani Darden Skin Care Moisture Boost plumping serum, £72 for 39ml, cultbeauty.com: This is the first product I have tried from Shani Darden, and I was immediately impressed.
It’s not just a hyaluronic acid, but contains a whole cocktail of other skin-loving ingredients – panthenol, snow mushroom, glycerin and brightening antioxidants.
From the first use, my skin was glowing.
You only need one pump for the whole face.
If you have the money, this is a clear winner, but The Ordinary takes top spot on balance because of its affordable price tag.
Pick of the week
TIKTOK users have likely seen the Milk Makeup cooling water jelly tint, £22, go viral after it was launched in the US last month.
And, from today, they are finally available to buy in the UK too.
The novel formula looks like real jelly, and glides on to skin to provide a long-lasting stain that is weightless.
The hype is truly worth it.
