Occasional Digest - a story for you

BEAUTY fans have hailed a £2 ingredient which will help to get rid of the tiny wrinkles which come right under the eyes.

As people age, skin cells divide more slowly and the middle layer of the skin – which offers support and elasticity – begins to thin.

Laughter and smiling also may cause wrinkles, which is what has happened to beauty fan Maxiine McGrath.

The tattoo and makeup artist took to TikTok to ask other beauty fans for their advice on how to get rid of them.

She has gained very fine wrinkles just underneath her eyes, which become more prominent when she smiles.

Maxiine has asked her followers what she can do, as she feels Botox won’t be able to reach the specific area she needs it in.

She also realises that ‘teardrop filler’ wouldn’t work as that wouldn’t get rid of her “sagging skin.”

Teardrop filler is a non-surgical procedure that involves injecting a gel-like substance into specific areas around the eyes.

It works to fill in lost volume that comes as a result of ageing.

Her video has since gone viral, with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One beauty fan recommended Castor Oil, which only costs £2 from stores including Ocado

Experts believe that this ingredient contains fatty acids that penetrate deep into the skin.

Studies have shown that it helps to promote collagen production and improve elasticity, which then encourages the skin to appear firmer and tighter.

According to experts at Boots, the eyes have 22 muscles in “endless motion and around 10,000 blinks per day,” so it’s no wonder why the eyes are one of the first places to show signs of ageing.

Noella Gabriel, global president of ELEMIS, says the eye contour “is fragile and much thinner” than the skin on your face.

Dr Derrick Phillips, a consultant dermatologist, believes in this current financial crisis people can use “whatever moisturiser” they’re using on the rest of their face under their eye area.

But eye creams typically “differ” from facial creams, as the texture is lighter and less greasy so the thinner skin can “easily absorb it.”

Expert guide to skincare

Five essential skincare steps from wrinkle-free skin

According to experts, these are the tips to take for looking after your skin.

1. Take your makeup off as soon as you get home

2. Double cleanse

3. Regularly exfoliate

4. Avoid applying pressure to face when you are asleep

5. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep

How to apply eye cream

Noella believes that people should be using an eye cream morning and evening straight after your cleansing routine.

The beauty expert says that the ring fingers should be used as it has the “lightest touch” meaning “less pressure” on the delicate area.

Dr Phillips urges eye cream users to apply a small amount on the finger and dot it “around the orbital bone,” whilst also ensuring that the finger smooths the cream from the inner to the outer corners of the eye.

Teaming the eye cream with an under-eye massager is also encouraged by aesthetic practitioner and nurse, Natali Kelly.

She explains that this can “help gently push the ingredients into the skin.”

It won’t just cool the area, but it will also stimulate lymphatic drainage to reduce puffiness in the area, according to Natali.

What is lymphatic drainage?

Unlike traditional massage, lymphatic drainage uses light pressure to mobilise the lymphatic system – which carries waste products away from the tissues.

It helps to reduce swelling, bloat and puffiness.
