Since The eight-episode series was released on the streaming platform a few days ago, some viewers have branded it a 10 out of 10.
The story is a spin-off of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, which was an action comedy surrounding the dirty dealings of London’s gangsters.
The Gentlemen follows English soldier Eddie Halstead as he attempts to navigate the criminal underworld while trying to keep his loved ones out of harm’s way.
In the new Netflix series, which landed on March 7, Eddie, played by The White Lotus’ Theo James, unexpectedly inherits a massive estate and the title of Duke of Halstead from his late father.
However, he soon discovers that the land has become part of a weed-growing empire run by a notorious criminal.
Since its release, some fans have had issues with Eddie’s idiotic cocaine-addicted brother Freddy, who Lovesick star Daniel Ings plays.
Viewers were left frustrated and wanting to ‘strangle him’ as they just couldn’t understand how the character could mess up so much.
Taking to X(formerly Twitter), one user penned: “Freddy has to be the most annoying character ever in a series.”
Another added: “Freddy is so f***ing annoying.”
Someone else couldn’t cope with Freddy’s stupidity at all and called him out, saying: “There is annoying, then there’s Freddy on The Gentleman.”
A third wrote: “Freddy is such an annoying imp, oh my God. That’s why his dad didn’t will him anything.”
“I’m watching The Gentlemen, and I want to kill Freddy,” typed a fourth.
A fifth commented: “Just one episode in The Gentlemen, and I want to strangle Freddy myself. WTF!!!”
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, James said of his character Eddie: “He realises that the estate, this crumbling vestige of the British Empire, has been propped up by criminality.”
Fans also took to the social media platform and praised the series with one saying: “Love it.
“Both serious and hilarious that you don’t even realise you are watching a crime show.”
Another said: “So far it’s great. Best thing I’ve seen on Netflix for a while.”
A third simply wrote: “In my opinion, 10/10.”
A fourth chimed: “Only watched the first episode, but it’s really good so far. Much needed new good quality content for Netflix.”
Others also praised James’ performance, with some even touting him as the newest James Bond.
One wrote: “This lad would be great as the new James Bond,” with another agreeing, “100% both my husband and I said this.”
The Gentlemen is rated at 73% on the Tomatometer just days after its release, with an average Audience Score of 83% and currently sits at number one on Netflix’s TV programmes chart.
Most recently, Netflix confirmed the return of Avatar: Airbender for two more seasons despite mixed reviews.
It comes after the newly rebooted Noughties TV show received divided reactions due to plot changes, the use of CGI and green screen effects.
The Gentlemen is available to stream on Netflix now.
