The Hollywood star won Best Actress for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor Things.
As shocked as he was to win the Oscar, Emma, 35, urged the audience and viewers at home to not pay attention to the back of her dress, which seemingly split open.
“My dress is broken,” she said through tears while hugging former Best Actress winners.
The La La Land actress jokingly revealed why she thinks it broke in the first place, “I think it happened during I’m Just Ken. I’m pretty sure.”
After thanking her fellow cast members and her family, she pleaded that no one paid attention to her fashion mishap.
“Don’t look at the back of my dress,” she said as she turned away from the mic and hid the rip with her hand.
MORE ABOUT POOR THINGS
The film’s plot follows a young woman named Bella Baxter who, after undergoing an unconventional brain transplant, is “reborn” with an infant’s brain.
Baxter’s intelligence rapidly develops as she is exposed to the world around her, and she sets off on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and redemption.
Set in Victorian London, audiences go on a journey, through Baxter’s eyes and (new) mind, as she questions established societal constructs, from gender roles and norms to power dynamics and moral and ethical dilemmas.
Poor Things currently has an 8.3 out of 10 score on IMDb, a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 87% on Metacritic.
