Occasional Digest - a story for you

THE winners of Dancing On Ice have been crowned – with Ryan Thomas and his partner Amani Fancy taking home the trophy.

Actor Ryan was in the final alongside Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire, but he impressed both the judges and viewers at home the most.

Unfortunately, former Olympian Greg Rutherford was forced to pull out of the finale show at the last minute after suffering a serious injury in rehearsals which saw him rushed to hospital.

His fiancée Susie Verrill later shared a worrying update with a short video of Greg lying in bed in the Resus department. It has not been confirmed which part of his body Greg has hurt.

Meanwhile, back on the rink, and Adele and her skating partner Mark Hanretty were first to leave and finished the series in third place.

Ryan and his partner Amani, and Miles and Vanessa Bauer then went head-to-head in a Bolero skate off – with Ryan and Amani clinching it.

In a moving tribute, Ryan dedicated the trophy to his injured co-star Greg.

  • Fans spot awkward moment Stephen Mulhern announces wrong name

Fans watched on last night as Stephen Mulhern made a huge blunder when he announced the ‘wrong name’ on Dancing On Ice.

Vanessa Bauer‘s name was called out alongside Ryan Thomas, when it should have been Amanci Fancy.

Taking to X, one fan said: “Stephen messed up at the end saying your winners Ryan and Vanessa instead of Amani…”

Whilst a second noted: “Whilst a Ryan and Amani not Ryan and Vanessa Stephen! #DancingOnIce.”

  • Proud daughter

Ryan Thomas’ proud daughter Scarlett was in the Dancing On Ice studio audience supporting her dad.

The Waterloo Road star was snapped by her uncle Scott backstage and looked fab in a denim jacket, white T-shirt and heart-shaped gold earrings.

Ryan shares Scarlett with his ex, Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien, and she is already following in her family’s showbiz footsteps.

Scarlett stars in the BBC’s Waterloo Road alongside her uncle Adam and his son Teddy.

  • Finishing places

Last night’s final consisted of three couples, rather than the planned four due to Greg Rutherford’s serious accident.

But where did they all finish?

Adele and her skating partner Mark were first out, meaning they finished in third place. But not all fans were happy.

After wowing the audience with a show-stopping performance to Beyonce’s Texas Hold Em, some felt she should have been in the top two.

Ryan and Miles then went head-to-head and each performed the Bolero, with Ryan being crown the champion and Miles finishing in second place.

  • Big money deal

Holly Willoughby has been offered a big money deal to return to Dancing On Ice next year, according to reports.

Now this year’s series has wrapped, Holly is believed to not have a contract with ITV for the first time in 20 years – and bosses are desperate to keep her.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: “Dancing On Ice is definitely coming back in 2025 and the plan is that Holly will host it.

“Contracts are being negotiated but the chiefs love her and they know that there are others who would love to sign her up but ITV love her and they want to keep her very much part of the ITV furniture for years to come.”

  • Stephen stumbles

Poor Stephen Mulhern was left red-faced last night as he took a tumble on the ice.

In an unprecedented move, Stephen actually ventured onto the rink and was lifted high into the air by some male skaters.

However, when it came to putting him down on slippery ground, the Dancing On Ice star suffered an unfortunate slip. Oops!

  • Stunning on ice

Oti Mabuse looked gorgeous last night as she wowed the crowd in a dark green gown.

The new mum posed for several dramatic photographs backstage before the live final got underway and fans were left swooning.

One told Oti on Instagram: “You look beautiful ❤️, I love this colour x.”

Her showbiz pal Alison Hammond added: “Love this 🔥🔥.”

  • Sweet tribute

Hours before the live Dancing On Ice final kicked off, Holly Willoughby paid a sweet tribute to her beloved mum Linda.

The DOI host shared a photo of herself and her lookalike mother posing together and said: “You’re not just my mum, you’re my inspiration and guiding star.

“Thank you for your love and guidance… Happy Mother’s Day mamma… Shine bright.”

It was also a special day for Holly too, as she is a mum herself to three children.

  • More drama

Things are going from bad to worse for Greg Rutherford’s fiancée Susie Verrill.

While heading home to the kids while badly injured Greg remained in hospital, Susie found herself stuck in a road block.

Sharing a snap while stranded in a jam, the mum-of-three said: “And the night gets better.”

  • Class reunion

It was great to see the Class Of 2024 reunite for mini individual performances during the live final.

Some of them definitely seemed a little wobbly as they returned to the ice for the first time in a while!

Hannah Spearritt decided not to skate but, despite previous reports, she did attend the show and stood with her former co-stars at the side of the rink.

Unfortunately for viewers, there was no explanation as to WHY she wasn’t skating with partner Andy Buchanan, though.

  • First to fall

Poor Miles took a tumble during his first skate of the final.

He looked absolutely gutted when talking to Holly and Stephen and even appeared to be holding back tears.

Miles told Stephen he had “let down” his skating partner Vanessa.

“I let her down, that was a stupid mistake,” he said.

Miles added to Vanessa again: “I’m so, so sorry.”

But his fans rallied round and the pair went on to skate Bolero and even finished in second place. Not bad, eh?!

  • Winner’s prep

Before his win, Ryan Thomas gave fans a sneak peek at his behind-the-scenes prep for the show.

The former Corrie star proudly showed off his ripped physique in just a pair of tiny pants after having a spray tan.

Alongside an emoji of an orange, Ryan told his supporters: “My last spray tan of the series @dancingonice.”

  • Trophy dedication

Ryan has kindly dedicated his Dancing On Ice trophy to injured co-star Greg Rutherford.

After managing to compose himself after hearing that he and Amani had been crowned the winners, he made the sweet gesture.

He said: “Greg, if you’re watching this at home, this trophy is for you, mate!”

  • Champion Ryan

Ryan and Amani have been crowned this year’s champions of Dancing On Ice.

    Congratulations!

  • Filling time

Woah, they are really dragging this result out.

Mind you, the show bosses had quite a bit of time to fill following Greg and Vanessa’s sudden withdrawal.

  • Choked up

Bless Stephen Mulhern. Torvill and Dean left him really choked up there.

It was an emotional performance to be fair. Holly, however, is like – meh. Seen it all before…

  • Torvill and Dean time

It’s fantastic to see Jayne and Christopher performing on the ice in tonight’s final.

The Olympic gold medal winners previously announced their retirement after a seriously impressive 40-year career.

Thankfully, it appears skating on DOI will be the exception (well, this year at least!).

  • Lines are closing

If you’ve not yet voted for your winner, you are out of time.

The lines have closed and the winner is now locked in. Eek!

Who do you think is going to lift the trophy?

  • Gogglebox’s favourite

Stephen Lustig-Webb from Gogglebox is there!

Poor Stephen was all signed up and ready to go for this year’s series but had to pull out after breaking his ankle in training.

Stephen has now given his verdict on who he thinks will win.

When asked by Stephen Mulhern, he replied without hesitation: “Ryan.”

  • Who is your winner?

Both Ryan and Miles appeared to perform their Boleros with ease, but who will make it all the way?

Torvill and Dean were fans of both skates and they couldn’t pick out any faults.

“It was seamless,” Jayne told Ryan. Christopher noted his “passion” and called it “your night tonight”.

Could Ryan and Amani clinch it? There’s just five minutes left to vote. Go, go GO!

  • From fall to final

Ryan has come a long way since his double fall earlier in the competition.

He’s now about to perform his last routine with his partner Vanessa and, in his own words, it is “make or break”.

Come on, Ryan. You’ve got this!

  • Final skate

Miles and Vanessa’s final skate looked pretty perfect to the untrained eye – and Jayne and Chris thought so too.

“It was alright,” Chris mused. I’d agree.

  • Anniversary dance

This year is the 40th anniversary of Torvill and Dean’s Bolero, so there is extra pressure on the finalists.

Miles and Vanessa are up first with the iconic performance – and so far so good.

He might have taken a tumble in his Showcase routine but he’s managing to stay upright so far!

  • Unhappy fans

Not all Dancing On Ice fans are happy by the news that Adele and Mark are out of the competition.

Sharing their fury on X, one wrote: “Disgusted that Adele and Mark have finished 3rd. My winner from the start.”

Another added: “If Adele isn’t out first?!”

    What do you think?

  • Time to say goodbye

This year’s third place couple are… Adele and Mark.

Holly told Adele: “This just seems so cruel when you’re there in all the Bolero gear and we’re not here to see it!”

Poor Adele. This result is a shock!

  • First to go

We are minutes away from finding out who will be finishing this year’s Dancing On Ice final in third place.

Could Miles’ fall have cost him his chances of lifting the DOI trophy?

Or have his fans rallied round? We’re about to find out!
