A bus crash that killed an 18-year-old woman in Brisbane’s CBD was “not a normal accident” and will be thoroughly investigated, a Queensland minister says.
Grace Grace, whose electorate includes the CBD, said the forensic unit was investigating after the crash.
It is understood the driver of the council bus lost control and mounted the curb just after 5pm, pinning the woman against the Anzac Square Arcade building on Edward Street.
The woman died at the scene.
“I am ensured that every support is being offered to all those impacted and I’m advised that the forensic crash unit is undertaking a very thorough investigation,” Ms Grace said.
“It’s not one of those normal kind of accidents, we’re not exactly sure what happened. Often in circumstances like this … it doesn’t help to have any information that is not accurate.”
Four passengers and the bus driver were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
In a statement last night, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said council would help police with the investigation.
