The 59-year-old was put at risk alongside Lauren Simon, with the decision now in the hands of the public vote.
Fans who eagerly opened the Big Brother app when voting began were disappointed to discover that the format of the voting system had been changed by the bosses.
The vote was for saving but many viewers mistakenly believed it was for elimination. This meant that some fans unintentionally saved Gary when they actually wanted to vote him out.
One viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “OMG forgot it was vote to save and wasted two of my votes on Gary Goldsmith.”
Another added: “I thought I was voting to evict and just voted 5 times to save Gary. CBBUK changed the vote from the last BBUK.”
Fans flocked to Reddit to discuss the voting format that caught them off guard.
One user wrote: “I actually think Gary will be saved.”
Whilst another added: “I knew they shouldn’t have changed it. People complained but Big Brother being vote to evict has always been the way and what made the show unique to others.”
And a third penned: “I’ve seen people on here say it too – so doubt he will be evicted.”
Some users defended CBB saying: “They made it perfectly clear that it was vote to save and not vote to evict.”
Gary was nominated by Sharon Osbourne when she was given a ‘killer nomination,’ granting her the power to choose one housemate to automatically face eviction.
