Police are calling for women with relevant information to come forward after charging a 24-year-old man for allegedly knowingly spreading a sexually transmitted infection to women he met on social media.

Detectives from Sarina Criminal Investigation Branch arrested the man in Sarina on Tuesday as part of investigations into alleged acts intended to transmit serious disease in the Mackay area.

It is alleged between November 2022 and July 2023, the 24-year-old had unprotected sex with multiple women without disclosing he had an STI.

The man is from the Mackay region but it is alleged he used dating and social media apps to meet with women in Queensland.

Detectives will allege he “knowingly transmitted a serious disease to women on two occasions” and are urging anyone who has had a similar experience to come forward.

The 24-year-old has been charged with two counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm or transmit serious disease and two counts of distributing intimate images.

The man was remanded in custody after the case was briefly mentioned in the Mackay Magistrates Court today and adjourned until May 15.
