Omokehnie (@omokehniee) has garnered almost 16,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares self-care tips.

She showed how thick and healthy her hair looked after using a DIY protein treatment.

“Try this consistently and see your hair grow rapid,” read the text over the screen.

The beauty enthusiast divided her hair into small sections before applying a homemade mixture to her scalp.

She said it was made from a blend of eggs, coconut oil, melted shea butter, honey, one avocado, and hair mayonnaise.

While most items can be found at the local grocery store, hair mayonnaise is available from Amazon’s Africa’s Best store for $7.99.

Shoppers have given it a 4.4-star rating and penned glowing reviews about how it improved the condition of their hair.

“Improved organics hair mayonnaise is enriched with natural botanical herbal extracts,” reads the product description.

“Vitamins, egg protein, and olive oil to condition, moisturize, and strengthen damaged or over-processed hair.

“With consistent use, it helps rejuvenate and renew weak fragile hair leaving the hair healthier looking with greater body shine, elasticity, and moisture.”

Omokehnie used her hands to massage her DIY hair treatment throughout her hair before styling it in three buns.

“Wrap hair in a plastic bag or nylon and secure with a scarf. Leave for 45 mins and rinse out,” read the text over the screen.

She explained the benefits of the hair mask in the caption of her post.

“It’s good to replenish your hair’s protein elements from time to time to keep it healthy,” she said.

“I usually do protein treatments every six to eight weeks. Try this DIY protein treatment at home.”

She said that she uses the Mega Growth range of shampoo and conditioners for her relaxed hair.

“The plastic bag serves as a steaming option for me, but you can use a steam cap if you want,” she said.

“Also when I rinse this off, I shampoo.”

“I do it every eight weeks also when I get my relaxed touch-ups. I make sure to get it done as well,” she added.

Almost 48,000 viewers liked the video and hundreds of people took to the comment section eager to try the mask for themselves.

“Love how long your hair is, can it work for natural hair?” one person asked.

“Thank you. Yes, you can use it in your natural hair,” Omokehnie replied.

Chemical treatments, poor diet, heat styling, and oxidative stress can strip the hair shaft of its protein.

Studies have shown that applying egg yolk topically to the scalp can infuse the root of your hair with vitamins.

According to Healthline, this application will make new hair grow stronger and be less prone to breakage and shedding.
