Occasional Digest - a story for you

DEAR DEIDRE: While drunk, my boyfriend confided in me that a friend he used to live with kept touching him after he’d been drinking.

This mate used to end up in his bed claiming he’d been sleepwalking.

My boyfriend was 18 and not getting on with his parents when a room came up in this man’s house.

This guy was 30 and they quickly became friends. My boyfriend is now 22 and I’m 20. We met a year ago after he moved out of the man’s house.

I know something happened but not exactly what. This man spams my boyfriend with photos and messages.

The photos are usually of him in his underwear. I’ve told my boyfriend he needs to end the friendship but he won’t.

My boyfriend denies anything odd has ever happened between them and makes excuses, but I feel he was groomed by this man. How do I deal with this?

DEIDRE SAYS: Your boyfriend may feel embarrassed, ashamed, confused and angry that this could have happened to him and may not have recognised that he was vulnerable to this older man.

You are not being unreasonable in asking your boyfriend to cut ties. He is being manipulated by this man.

My support pack Abused As A Child has information on where your boyfriend can get support.

But if your boyfriend insists on staying friends, you may have no choice but to walk away.
