The Olympic figure skaters beamed as they held both hands up to indicate her top mark.

This bumped her overall score up to a record 39 out of 40.

Adele screamed in disbelief at the result, turning to her partner Mark Hanretty for a hug.

When she heard that she had received the highest score of the series tonight, the DJ broke down, crying as she murmured: “Oh my God.”

Fans rushed to praise her for her skate, with many saying they were moved to tears.

Adele Roberts just became a skater… WOW,” wrote one.

“Adele Roberts to win!!! That was amazing…” said another, while a third said she “has what it takes to win”.

“What can I say, floods of tears….absolutely loved that….bravo,” wrote one fan.

“I don’t usually cry at Dancing On Ice but Adele Roberts that was just beautiful and I may just have something in my eye,” echoed another.

However, some viewers felt she didn’t deserve the highest score of the competition and that it should have been Amber instead.

They claimed that she didn’t skate alone, unlike other stars, who got lower scores than her.

“How can she set the highest score of the series and she didn’t even skate on her own?” one wrote.

“I haven’t seen any of this series so far but by Christ, these scores are absolutely ludicrous tonight,” another echoed.

“Amber is picked up for not dancing on her own but Adele is led and pushed round the ice and gets 10s,” said a third.
