Occasional Digest - a story for you

AN inked woman said she has some regrets.

Although she’s gotten nine tattoos over the years, she no longer relates to them.

Makeup artist Samantha (@smoneyyz) said although she knows it’s uncommon for people with so many tattoos to voice their regrets, she’s going to be honest about her life.

“I have nine tattoos, mostly on my arms and hands, which are very visible areas,” she began in the clip.

“But tattoo regret is becoming increasingly popular, and I think it needs to be talked about more.”

While she knows it all comes down to better decision making and thinking through something permanent, she was young and lost when she began getting inked.

“I was going through a lot. I had just gone through a breakup, I had some family stuff going on, and I just felt like the world was against me.”

Becoming numb to everything that hit her, she was looking to feel something – so, she got a tat in the name of therapy.

She was also inspired by those successful professionals around her in the makeup industry who looked edgy with their sleeves.

“I felt like I was this girl from suburban New Jersey who didn’t stand out and I felt like I needed to prove something.”

She began, impulsively, to get tattoos without researching or thinking too deeply into them.

But, she issued a warning for others in a similar boat.

I love product from Dunnes Stores so much I have it tattooed on my arm – people say it’s ‘iconic’

“If you’re going through something, going through a phase, don’t get tattoos.”

Another reason she regrets them is because, as a Jewish person, she feels judged by those in her community – as tattoos are frowned upon.

Additionally, seeing all the ink-free brides whose makeup she does rock their sleeveless gowns, she feels envious of their classy look.

While she knows she can get them removed, because she has so many large dark ones, it will be too pricey.

“They quoted me $1,000 per session, and it’s going to take probably 12 to 20 sessions.”

It will also be painful, and as an active person who spends much time outside, she’s worried she will be limited in her activities because of the rules about sun exposure.

Still, she’s over them.

“I no longer resonate with the person I was or the style I had back when I got the tattoos, and it sucks.

“I feel so self-conscious with all these big, black, dark tattoos.”

Even when people compliment how hardcore she looks, she doesn’t take it well.

“I don’t want to look bada**, I don’t want to look cool, that’s just not my style and who I’m trying to evolve into.”

Her final words were a warning to those going through a difficult time: “Don’t get a tattoo, because your TikTok big sis is here with the receipts, saying you’re going to regret it.

“Go to therapy, talk to your friends, play with your dog, don’t get the tattoo… Treat your body like a temple.”

Viewers backed her claim.

“This is why I’m never ever getting them. I know my taste will change,” one person wrote.

“I do regret all of my tattoos. I mean, I like them, but I just don’t feel like they’re me anymore,” added another.
