CASH-STRAPPED Brits could soon be able to cop an electric motor – as a budget car firm has announced Britain’s cheapest EV.

The new car – made by Dacia – will cost around £10,000 less than anything else in the UK’s motor market, and will be available in less than a month.

It’s expected to be sold for around £18,000 and could be even cheaper for a base model

The Dacia Spring has been widely available in mainland Europe since 2021 but Brits can expect to see the cheap whip in showrooms from March 12.

Dacia’s parent company, Renault, were reportedly reluctant to ship the whip to the UK but recently changed their mind, and the price will surely tempt drivers into ditching their petrol-chugging cars and going all-electric.

The firm has opted against stating a fixed price until the official release, but It’s expected to be sold for around £18,000 and could be even cheaper for a base model, reports the Daily Mail.

The car itself was made with a vision of providing a “widely affordable” fully electric car and promises to be the “most affordable full-electric car on the market”.

Dacia execs are hoping the cheap-as-chips EV will convince Brits to make the switch, and given the discount it has when compared to the next cheapest car, it could be the perfect time to splurge on a brand new electric motor.

After the Dacia Spring, the next cheapest car is an MG4 which starts from £26,995, but Dacia’s Spring base model could be as little as £15,500.

The budget motor has proved popular in the countries where it has already been released and was the third most sold electric car to “retail customers” in 2022 and 2023 – selling 140,000 units in the same time period.

Specs wise, the car comes with a 26.8kWh battery and can run on a single charge for “over 137 miles”.

But the company says that the charge range works for their current customers as data collected by the firm showed that Dacia drivers travel an average of 23 miles per day.

As well as that, they also noted that most of them are charged at home and a fully charged Spring will take around 11 hours.

When it comes to a more detailed look at the charging capabilities, the compact car will come with a 7kW AC charger which is able to juice the battery from 20 to 100 per cent in less than 11 hours.

This can also be shortened to just four hours with a 7kW home charger. 

It’s not the only electric car Brits can get excited about, as new drops are continually announced the push to go all electric continues to build momentum.

Recently, the first images of the new Range Rover Electric were revealed as the iconic motor is set to be relaunched next year.

And Britain’s best-selling car has had a makeover – as its bosses hope to retain its most-sold crown for the third time.
