Neil Gourley “will be OK” for the Olympics despite having to miss the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow next month through injury.

The European Indoor 1500m silver medallist, 29, was hoping to compete in his home city from 1-3 March.

He backed Scots Josh Kerr, Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie to shine in Glasgow.

“I suffered an injury a couple of weeks ago that unfortunately is going to mean that I can’t compete there,” he said in a video posted on X.

“It meant the world to me to be competing in Glasgow in front of my people in my home town – an opportunity that I might not ever get again.

“Sometimes we’re guilty as athletes of wanting it too much. With the Olympics this year, I understand athletes’ decisions to maybe shy away from the indoors, but that was never even a thought for me.

“This injury I’ll deal with and rehab properly and I’ll be OK come this summer. The only thing now to do is put it right this summer when it matters even more for the people that have been in my corner.”

Gourley urged those watching to “lean on your people” and added: “I’m really grateful for the people around me and we’ll have better days.”
