Liverpool forward Diogo Jota had to go off injured in a win at Brentford

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp forward Diogo Jota faces “months” out with a knee injury he sustained in the win at Brentford on Saturday.

Jota was taken off on a stretcher just before half-time after Bees midfielder Christian Norgaard fell on his leg.

“With Diogo it will obviously take months,” said Klopp, speaking before his side play Luton in the Premier League on Wednesday.

A reportexternal-link in Jota’s native Portugal said he faced about two months out.

However, it added he is expected to return before the season finishes and prior to Euro 2024 in the summer.

“Another setback. I will fight to be back as soon as possible,” said Jota, who has 14 goals in 28 appearances for the Reds this season, on social media.

Jota won the January player of the month award before the Brentford match and will miss the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday as part of his absence.

Reds midfielder Curtis Jones also went off injured in the Brentford game, while striker Darwin Nunez was substituted at half-time as a precaution.

Keeper Alisson Becker missed the game after picking up an issue in training the day before the match.

Klopp said Jones had a bone ligament injury, while Alisson is sidelined with a muscle issue, although he could not give a timeframe on when they will be back. Both players will miss the visit of the Hatters.

Liverpool are already without defender Trent Alexander-Arnold with a knee injury as well as midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara with respective hamstring and muscle issues.

“It’s not great, definitely not,” added Klopp. “I’d like to say no issues but obviously we have some.

“So, not available, Alisson, that’s a muscle injury where we don’t know exactly how long it takes but definitely not in the foreseeable time coming back.

“The others we will deal with it day-by-day with muscle things.

“Trent and Dom are on the way back but not in team training yet.”
