So if you want your home to sparkle, without too much faff, you’ve come to the right place.
Posting on social media, a cleaning pro from Purdy and Figg, explained that a mop error will cause musty smells, whilst a common dust blunder makes removing dust much harder.
Sharing the advice online, the cleaning whizz said: “Have you made any of these cleaning mistakes?! We’re giving you three ways you can step up your cleaning game with these quick and easy hacks.”
She then admitted: “I’ve made tons of mistakes when it comes to cleaning but I’ve made them so you don’t have to, so here are three of my top cleaning mistakes that everyone seems to make.”
Dust, dust, baby
If your bedside tables are covered in dust, you’ll need to make sure you avoid this common mistake.

The cleaning pro explained: “The biggest one is trying to remove dust with a damp cloth.
“It just pushes the dust around – use a dry cloth first before cleaning with any product.”
Let it dry
Not only this, but if you are someone who has their washing hung up in a bedroom and are wondering why it’s taking ages to dry, you’ll need to take notes.
The cleaning whizz shared: “Secondly, don’t leave your clothes to dry in an un-aerated room.
“The best place is outside where they can air dry naturally or at least in a large room with lots of airflow.
“They’ll dry quicker and smell so much fresher.”
Mop what?!
Finally, we saw the woman cleaning her floors with her mop, as she revealed the thing that many people forget to do with their mop.
She concluded: “And lastly, ensure you’re draining your mop correctly.
“Otherwise you’ll risk watermarks and musty smells.”
Cleaning enthusiasts left divided
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @purdyandfigg, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed a staggering 22,300 likes.
Social media users were thankful for the cleaning advice and many took to the comments to express this.
One person said: “The first one: yes, finally some validation.”
Another added: “Great tips! Thank you.”
A third commented: “Air drying is always the way!”
However, at the same time, not everyone was as keen on the tips.
One user claimed: “Don’t recommend dry dusting without telling asthmatic people it’s a hazard.”
A second chimed in: “Drying clothes outside is gross. It puts dirt and pollen onto the clothes.”
Whilst someone else revealed: “I just hoover the dust.”
