The cold snap comes after heavy rain sparked flooding across the UK over the weekend, causing chaos for homes, roads and train lines.
Northern Ireland has been placed under a yellow weather warning for ice until 9.30am this morning.
The Met Office warn this could lead to some difficult travelling conditions – as icy patches cover the roads.
Meanwhile, tonight’s cold weather means the rest of the UK could be hit with a dusting of the white stuff as temperatures reach as low as 2C in Aberdeen.
The day will start off sunny and mild for most before the mercury plunges later tonight.
Forecasters say tonight will be begin with “clear spells and showers” with rain “most widespread and blustery in the northwest, with snow on high ground.”
They added: “Patchy frost and ice. Rain arriving in the far southwest later.”
MORE RAIN
It comes as 83 “expected” flood warnings and 236 “possible” flood alerts remain in place across England after the weekend’s downpours.
And it’s not the end of the rain – as heavy showers are forecast for the rest of the week.
The Met Office say tomorrow will bring “heavy blustery showers in the far north” while elsewhere will see sunshine and isolated showers.
However, cloud will thicken from the southwest, with rain reaching much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland by evening.
And Wednesday to Friday will be “generally unsettled” with “wet and rather windy weather” affecting most areas at times.
