He scored 126 goals in 366 matches during his 11 years with United.

And he famously pounced at the death to score the winner against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final.

Solskjaer returned to United as manager in 2018 and, despite the club’s struggles on the pitch, he still remains a hero despite being sacked in 2021.

Data from YouGov previously revealed that a whopping 38 per cent of United’s global fan base resides in India.

That led to the 50-year-old Solskjaer announcing that he would be embarking on a three-city tour of the country.

And he was greeted by thousands as he landed at Mumbai airport on Saturday after visiting Bengaluru.

Solskjaer was also greeted by his famous chant as hordes tried to catch a glimpse and get a selfie with the six-time Premier League winner.

After the clip went viral, supporters closer to home could not help poking fun at the scenes.

One asked: “Did he get even 1% of such reception at his exit in Manchester?”

Another commented: “Well done lads..that’s how a hero should be welcomed!”

A third added: “This is sensational.”

Ahead of the trip, Solskjaer said: “I am truly thrilled to finally be here in India and meet the nation’s Red Devils.

“This tour organised by Tilak is not only a memorable moment for fans but also for me as I have been eager to visit the country and experience its footballing culture.

“I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome I have received in Bengaluru, and eagerly anticipate meeting fans in Delhi and Mumbai.”
