Would he have applauded the first steps by Sinn Fein leaders now ruling in both the North and South towards a united Ireland? Perhaps.
But he might ask how this will be accomplished without unravelling the Good Friday Agreement that has held a very fragile ceasefire for the past quarter of a century.
