The BBC presenter missed a performance in Leeds and has been taking time to recover.

Speaking on Instagram today, she revealed the seriousness of her condition and admitted it had scared her and dance partner Kai.

Angela said: “I’ve been off the grid for a couple of days because as some of you may know, I suffered a major medical meltdown at the beginning of the week.

“When we were in Liverpool, I managed to pick up an infection which went straight to my chest.

“It affected my breathing very badly and as some of you may know I do suffer from asthma.

“On Wednesday evening, when I was about to go on and dance the cha-cha-cha, I’m afraid the infection triggered a serious asthma attack and when I started to dance I stopped breathing which was all a bit scary.

“Not just for me but for Kai as well because I was a bit like a rag doll on the dancefloor.’

Angela was ordered to take two days of bed rest and prescribed an “impressive regime” of medication.

She went on: “Fortunately, we always have paramedics in the arenas when we perform and when I came off they gave me oxygen so I was able to breathe again.”

Angela confirmed she has been given the all clear to perform in Manchester on Saturday night.

Her co-star Angela Scanlon commented on her post and said: “Queen Ang. Back with a bang xx.”

Another fan penned: “Oh my goodness that must have been so scary for you and Kai. Thank goodness you have paramedics with you at all times.”

At 79, Angela holds the title of BBC One competition’s oldest contestant.

She was the eighth star voted out in last year’s competition.

Angela has been captivating audiences nationwide alongside partner Kai, sharing the stage with talents like Bobby Brazier, Layton Williams, and Strictly winner Ellie Leach.
