The BBC programme returned on Saturday night with father and son due Bradley and Barney Walsh hosting the show from Sheffield.
As the show welcomed its first two players, Matt and Chung, the show was almost instantly in disarray as a wardrobe malfunction forced the game to come to a halt.
Within seconds of the first game, Powerball, referee Mark Clattenburg was forced to blow his whistle as Phantom found himself in an unfortunate situation.
The audience at the arena were left stunned as the commentators debated why the game had been pulled to an early stop.
However, it quickly transpired that Phantom had lost his shoe during the game.
As he attempted to tackle Cardiff’s Matt on the arena floor, Phantom’s shoe became loose and fell off his foot.
Speaking to the audience, Mark said: “Because the Gladiator lost the shoe, we had to delay the match.”
In the commentary box they were left rather unimpressed at the disruption as they remarked: “Oh, is that it?
“I was expecting something much more dramatic.”
As the game drew to a close, Matt could be seen with a visible injury to his face.
Reacting in shock, host Bradley said: “Matt, you’ve got a cut lip!
“Oh my goodness.”
Matt then said: “They tackle hard, Brad.”
Chung won the game with eight points compared to Matt’s two.
Later in the episode, yet ANOTHER contestant lost a shoe as they attempted to climb the wall.
Gladiator Diamond took a swipe at the contender and managed to wrangle their shoe and sock off but failed to stop them from getting to the top of the wall.
Reacting on X – formerly Twitter – one fan said: “What the actual heck… Shoe #2 lost today.”
Another then added: “Another shoe bites the dust.”
Before a third penned: “That’s the second shoe this week.”
