Abigayle Andre is one of the TikTok‘s most recognisable motor experts who regularly shares tips and tricks to help drivers save money.
In her recent video, the car enthusiast has warned owners of diesel vehicles that not driving on motorway at least once a week could lead to an expensive damage.
She said: “If you’ve got a diesel car, not doing this could cost you well over £1,000.
“I know because I used to work at a car manufacturer and this used to happen all the time, but don’t let it happen to you as it’s not covered under warranty no matter how new your car is.”
Abigayle then proceeded to advise the motorists to drive for at least 15 minutes at 1,800 and 2,000 rpm on a dual carriageway or motorway once a week.
She recommended the diesel car owners that do not run enough miles to get behind the wheel at high speeds for a short time.
The motor expert explained that the unusual practice will extend the lifetime of the car’s diesel particulate filter.
The expensive part ensures that the diesel reaching the engine is clean, which in turn ensures that the engine can generate the maximum amount of power and high fuel efficiency.
Abigayle advised drivers to ensure they are aware of the proper engine speed to use in order to prevent clogging of the filter.
She continued: “Now, what car you’ve got is going to make a difference.
“It’s worth giving your local dealer a ring or your manufacturer’s customer services to find out exactly what you need to be driving at.
“Because, if you don’t, this could lead to some serious problems.
“You might end up seeing one of these [warning lights] which basically means you’ve got a clogged DPF [diesel particulate filter].
“Now, a DPF is a part that costs at least £1,000 on its own and if you don’t do this type of drive, it’s going to fail.”
Even though drivers will have to spend more money and time to drive extra miles each week, this will help them save cash in the long run.
Abigayle had previously named the top three cars for new drivers that can be snapped up for under £3,000.
She shared her suggestions which all were from big name brands.
