A new anguish

AS if the grieving families of Valdo Calocane’s victims haven’t suffered enough, they must now endure the constant fear that he might be released.

That is the terrifying effect of him having his murder charges downgraded and then being given a chance every three years by the trial judge to prove he is no longer a dangerous schizophrenic.

The relatives of Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates are already outraged he was not tried for murder and, like us, believe he will never be safe.

Now, even though some future Justice Secretary could block his release, the families must face the unending worry that such supposed safeguards will fail.

Reassuring them is every bit as vital as the Appeal Court review into Calocane’s sentence which the Attorney General should now consider.

Meanwhile the George Cross was surely minted for heroes like Grace, who sacrificed her own life trying to save Barnaby from the monster’s knife.

What a fitting tribute it would be.

No genocide

FOR all the Left’s spin, the International Court of Justice has so far rightly found against the ludicrous genocide case against Israel.

The judges merely told Israel to continue doing all it can to avoid killing civilians and to let in more aid. Fair enough.

They demanded neither a ceasefire nor a withdrawal — and insisted Hamas must free its hostages without either.

The reality is that no “genocide” is under way in Gaza, if the word is to continue to have any meaning.

Not even Hamas believes it, or its terrorists would not hide among civilians.

What would be the point?

They do that because they know Israel takes care NOT to wipe citizens out indiscriminately.

To try to class this complex war against a terror group alongside the industrialised slaughter of six million Jews in death camps is as absurd as it is intentionally offensive.

Top Klopp

YOU don’t have to be a Liverpool fan to lament Jurgen Klopp’s decision to quit.

He has certainly transformed the club’s fortunes since 2015.

But he has also been a true star of the Premier League . . . a great character and a gent with a big heart.

Without him, footy will be that bit poorer.

Royal woes

THESE are fraught times for the Royals, with the King and the future Queen in the same hospital at once for surgery.

But King Charles is already doing well and raring to get back to work.

Kate’s recovery will take a fair while longer.

Get well soon, both of you.
