After getting kickboxing lessons from Mike, Shola started to catch feelings for him and made up a lie that her mother had relapsed to get attention from him.

Mike quickly figured out that Shola was lying and approached her to talk about it before she started to cry and hugged him in a classroom.

Sadly, the two were spotted and Shola’s diary, where she spills the beans about her crush, was later given to Joe Casey (James Baxter).

After being confronted, Mike confessed to having private kickboxing lessons with Shola but insisted that there was nothing improper happening between them.

When Shola saw Mike leaving school, she confronted her husband Joe and said she didn’t mean to get him in trouble.

Joe went home and got into a heated argument with the police sergeant.

During the argument, the Deputy Head admitted that Mike’s actions could harm their chances of becoming foster parents.

After the episode, the viewers were left divided by the ongoing plot and had a lot to say.

Taking to X/Twitter, one wrote: “This is probably the best false-accusation story line the show has done, we’ve seen the build up(kinda), know the reasons, and Mike wasn’t an idiot about it either #WaterlooRoad.”

A second added: “We saw his evil side in @ITVCorrie as #JoshTucker but his compassionate, and empathic, portrayal of #MikeRutherford in @WaterlooRoad has been a fantastic testament to Ryan Clayton’s versatility. #WaterlooRoad.”

A third wrote: “I’m glad the girl admitted that she was lying. It was pretty obvious #WaterlooRoad.”

A fourth who thought the storyline had been done before, penned: “Can Waterloo Road think of different storylines we’ve been here before.”

While a fifth added: “Absolute nonsense. Mike Rutherford is a Police Sergeant. No way would that be taken into question about something like this. #WaterlooRoad.”
