Occasional Digest - a story for you

A BELOVED high street chain with 850 stores around the globe is set to make its grand comeback in the UK.

The franchise closed its last permanent branch in 2015 but, after a series of successful pop-up shops, it is set to make its mark on the country once again.

Known for producing ice cream of the highest quality, the shop has been a franchiser since 1976 – in more than 40 countries.

Its departure from the UK left thousands dismayed, but now Häagen-Dazs are making an iconic comeback.

The infamous ice cream retailer has finally announced that they will be relaunching their ice cream shops across the UK, focusing on Greater London as a first step in 2024.

After closing their Leicester Square branch in 2015, Häagen-Dazs has returned to London sporadically to set up pop-up shops.

At the time, the company took to Twitter to confirm the closure – adding that “Alternative locations are being explored”.

UK consumers were sent into a frenzy, and many ice-cream lovers took to social media to demand the return of their favourite brand.

One user wrote: “Please, at least one store in the UK? at least one!”

Another added: “This is a lie, 3 years later and you guys have closed ALL of your UK stores!! What’s going on and where is the nearest Haagen Dazs Cafe to me in London, UK????”

While a third said: “It is 2021 and yes we want the cafe back !!!”

Now, the beloved brand is ready to expand its franchise further.

It is aiming to open at least 25 stores in the UK over the next five years.

Executives are looking to contract with multi-unit franchises with a love for high quality products and a passion for customer service.

Häagen-Dazs say that they are passionate about three key things.

These are: “Continuing to empower its reputation of excellence.

“Providing its customers with the highest quality ice cream in the world.

“And providing its franchisees with exceptional support and successful opportunities.”

Successful franchise partners should have a passion for the brand, operational experience in the sector, relevant real estate experience, operational capability and a commitment to running multiple stores.

UK consumers have historically been avid fans of the brand.

Just last week, shoppers were seen flocking in their masses to Morrisons to get their hands on the brand’s latest treats.

So far shoppers have spotted two flavours of the sweet treats in stores, chocolate bites and salted caramel bites.

You can grab a box of eight of the 16ml bites for £4 in stores.

And there was outrage when the brand shrunk the size of its family tubs.

In 2019, Häagen-Dazs cut contents from 500ml to 460ml on customer faves, including vanilla, chocolate and Belgian chocolate – yet they kept the price the same.

The company said it was “absolutely a last resort” in a statement, but customers were left less than impressed.
