Toon join Onana race

Newcastle have reportedly joined Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

It comes after growing doubts over the future of Brazilian midfielder Joelinton.

The 27-year-old’s deal at St James’ Park expires in 18 months time, and he is yet to agree terms over a new contract on Tyneside.

It has been reported that Everton will want somewhere in the region of £50million for Onana’s services.

Spurs in Nusa talks

Tottenham have held talks with Club Brugge over a possible move for Norwegian wonderkid Antonio Nusa.

The 18-year-old has been labelled “one of Europe’s most exciting young talents”, with Chelsea also said to be interested.

Spurs have joined the transfer race for Nusa who the Belgian giants are demanding £25million for.

The deal must include a guarantee that he stays in North London for the rest of the season.

Brugge rejected a £23m offer from Chelsea on deadline day in the summer.

But any possible switch could see Nusa loaned back to the Belgian side – in a similar manner to the previous signings of Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr.

Both those players were signed by Udinese and Metz respectively then farmed straight back to the selling club.

And now they are starting regularly in the first-team – and that would be the long-term hope for winger Nusa.

Mour to come

Jose Mourinho has agreed to become the new manager of Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab.

Mourinho was sacked by Roma earlier this week after a dismal run in Serie A.

But he the ex-Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham boss is set for an immediate return to the after holding positive talks with the Saudi outfit’s chiefs on Thursday.

According to Aawsat, the Portuguese tactician held a Zoom meeting with sporting director Dominico Tite before verbally agreeing to become their new manager.

The Saudi Pro League’s recruitment team had already given Al-Shabab permission to discuss a mega-money contract with the former Real Madrid boss.

Mourinho will supposedly fly to Riyadh in the coming days to finalise terms on his new deal.

Troy Deeney’s side

Troy Deeney was sacked from his first job in management at Forest Green before he even received his first payslip.

After just six matches in charge of the League Two’s bottom club, Deeney was told he was being relieved of his duties.

They told me it was because of results but I have trouble believing that. I feel to a certain extent I have been used for my contacts and pulling power.

We had brought in five players in this window, most of whom would not have dropped down to the bottom of League Two if it wasn’t for me — including Maxi Oyedele, on loan from Manchester United.

Four weeks ago, I was the solution. Now I’m told I’m the problem. The club knew the type of character I was, someone that had been in the dressing room and knew changes needed to be made if the club was going to grow and gain improved results on the pitch.

When you’re taking over a club in the middle of a season and it is rock bottom of the league you can’t take your time and go easy. Hard words needed to be spoken and I felt that we were about to turn a corner with results.

Was I the problem? Or is it the club that is about to appoint its ninth manager in less than three years? I was expected to turn around the fortunes of a failing club in less than a month. I hadn’t even received my first payslip as a manager when they told me they were getting rid of me.
