Emily Jane Lathan and her partner Dan, who she refers to as ‘DIY Dan’, bought a 1970s bungalow in North East England.
The couple, who have been together for 12 years, have been slowly and gently renovating the mid-century Teeside home ever since they moved in, over two years ago.
The couple took to social media to show off the bungalow’s transformation, as they shared their ‘budget DIY kitchen renovation’ – leaving many totally stunned.
They explained that the walls were slightly damaged and the floor was rotten, but now, people think their new kitchen looks ‘beautiful’.
Emliy shared her clip with the caption ‘A gentle update to the more modern part of the house.
‘We guess this kitchen is around 10 years old but is really great quality, so we gave it a little mustard makeover.’
She then explained: “We removed a few cabinets to open up the space a little.
“Plastered any damaged walls, remove lino to find original floorboards! Replaced any rotten pieces, scaped, sanded and sealed.
“Painted cabinets in Dijon by Rustoleum.
“Installed oak worktops and reclaimed brass taps.
“Swapped out old handles and added panelling to the peninsula and walls.”
As Emily showed off her stunning new kitchen, she concluded: “And here’s the final result! A few finishing touches to go but we love it already.”
What was once very dull and dark has now been transformed from drab to fab, without breaking the bank.
The beige cupboards are now nowhere in sight, with the bright yellow adding depth and colour to the space.
Not only this, but the beautiful original floorboards looked brand new, and really bought personality to the heart of the couple’s home.
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @emilyjanelathan, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed a staggering 386,800 views.
Social media users were stunned at the before and after of the bungalow’s kitchen and many took to the comments to express this.
One person said: “Absolutely in love with your home.”
Another added: “I loved the original cabinets so much until I saw them painted and finished. Gorgeous and calm.”
A third commented: “Wow I love the yellow so much! You’ve done such an incredible job keeping the 70s vibe but in a modern way!”
At the same time, another user penned: “I cannot believe people would cover up beautiful floorboards with Lino. Beautiful kitchen!”
Meanwhile, someone else claimed: “I can’t believe this is in the UK.”
