Occasional Digest - a story for you

WE could all do with a little self care and pampering during dreary January.

A trip to a spa is the perfect way to rejuvenate but can leave a hole in stretched budgets.

HEAVEN SCENT: Eucalyptus is calming and can also relieve congestion. You will often smell this essential oil when visiting a spa.

To get the same effect, hang a few eucalyptus branches in your bathroom. The steam from the shower or bath will release the scent.

Eucalyptus can be found at florists and it shouldn’t cost much at all. Or a bunch mixed with lavender is priced from around £3 on Etsy.

DECLUTTER: Clear out products that you do not need or use, to create a more calming space.

Try to store anything that is not an everyday essential out of sight. Small storage baskets can be useful for packing up bath toys and any other clutter.

GET A HEAD: Changing your showerhead is a relatively cheap way to start a bathroom upgrade.

Rainfall heads mimic drops from the sky and feel particularly luxurious and relaxing. There are models stocked from around £14 to £16 on Screwfix and Amazon.

TOASTY TOWELS: Big, fluffy towels are comforting after a bath or shower.

Asda’s white super-soft cotton towels are on sale. You can pick up a bath sheet for £7. Also, add half a cup of vinegar when you wash your towels to help soften them.

CALMING CANDLE: A scented candle creates a more relaxing environment.

M&S Calm apothecary candle, with notes of lavender, is down from £8 to £5.33 at ocado.com.

COOL COLOURS: A quick lick of paint could make a big difference to your bathroom, especially if it is decorated with harsh or stark tones.

Instead, try soft, neutral colours to calm the senses.
