Caitlin Emiko (@caitlin.emiko) shared her unique financial experience with over 70,000 TikTok followers.

The fashion influencer explained that when the two of them explained their situation to other friends, they’re usually met with shocked reactions.

“When we tell people this, the way they say, ‘What the f**k?'” she said with a laugh.

Although it may seem complicated to others, Caitlin felt that it was actually a very simple process.

The two have shared a joint bank account for over a year and felt that it worked well for their needs.

“Anything I make, she gets, and anything she makes, I get as well… and whenever we tell people this, they genuinely have so many questions and they’re so shook,” she said.

“How it works is we have a joint card and a joint account that everything gets paid into.

“We get dividends from that account into our own accounts, split 50/50.”

Caitlin added that on top of feeling comfortable in her friendship, the two of them have seen no problem so far with sharing their finances.

On top of that, the process simplified splitting the bill whenever they spend time with each other.

“We’ve never been funny about money — best friends, if you spend so much time together, which we were… then it’s just like every day a different person gets the coffee, food, whatever,” she said.

“It’s also how I was raised, my parents were always like, ‘Always be the first to offer to pay’ and we were raised quite similarly so our view on money is quite similar.”

People took to the comments to share their thoughts on Caitlin’s financial situation.

“What happens if you guys stop being friends?” asked one commenter.

Caitlin didn’t think it was a problem at the present moment, “Cross that bridge if it happens,” she replied.

Others were supportive of her decision, especially since it’s not something that hasn’t been done before.

“Ok I read Ben Affleck and Matt Damon did this and I think if it works for the relationship it’s amazing, you can enjoy things together,” said one commenter.

“People are QUICK to share finances with a lover and how often does that go south? Best friends are typically for LIFE,” said another.

“It makes sense to me! I love that.”
