We all hope to get on with our other halves family – but sometimes, we end up with the worst monster-in-laws.
Taking to Reddit, the bride-to-be revealed she was left outraged after her partner’s mum ignored her wedding day colour code.
She said: “Monster-In-Law.
“I’m not crazy, right?
“My fiance and I became engaged 1.5 year ago. We kindly asked our mothers that we wanted them to wear Navy Blue because we wanted them to be our something blue.
“Well, we’re a week away from the wedding, and his mother shows me her dress…. it is light pink!!
“I told her we wanted the mothers to be our something blue, and she replied, well, your family can be in blue.”
She then showed a picture of the dress her mother-in-law purchased which was a pale blush pink colour, floor length and embellished with beans and sequins – totally against her colour scheme.
She revealed that both she and her soon-to-be-husband were both crushed by his mum’s dress choice, but revealed that wasn’t even the worst of it.
To combat the issue, she thought about buying her own mum a dress in a similar colour so that her monster-in-law wouldn’t steal the spotlight.
She continued: “He’s at a loss for words, I’m at a loss for words.
“Am I the a**hole if I purchase a light pink dress for my mother? …Should I buy my mum a matching “pink” dress or let it be. I’m so crushed!!!!
“Oh, when I did say something, she said “I paid over $1K for this dress, it’s beautiful and I’m wearing it”.
“l took the time to make all the mums a vision board. To help eliminate any challenge.
“We’re both so sad.
“He’s so crushed that his mum couldn’t understand the assignment.
“It’s not like we told her 2 months ago. … and, I have the receipts to back that up.”
To top it off her, the man’s mum also demanded to sign at the rehearsal dinner – other wise she wouldn’t host it for the couple.
“She’s been awful during this entire process. She threatened to not host a rehearsal dinner if she didn’t get to sing.
“So, now she’s singing at the rehearsal… we let that slide, but now this! HELP!” the bride-to-be added.
Reddit users were mortified by the mother-in-law’s action and quickly took to the comments to share what they would do.
One person wrote: “Hire a professional singer to make a surprise performance immediately after her at the rehearsal dinner, and have them wear a similar looking dress.”
Another commented: “Well if she’s not going to be you something blue tell her she’s now the something Old. And emphasise the old in your new storyboard vision.”
“Make a comment to both the mothers thanking them for being “something old, & something blue””, penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “To me it seems like she wants to stand out and be more important then your ‘blue’ family. If it was me, I’d get my mum a ‘matching’ pink dress as well, so it looks more intentional and to take mil’s supposed power away.”
Someone else added: “Buy/rent the same dress and wear it to your rehearsal dinner. That way she will look like she’s trying to copy you on the day or will be forced to wear something different.”
