William Bret Baier was born in Rumson, New Jersey on August 4, 1970, to a family of mixed German and Irish origins.
The news anchor has been a part of the Fox network since 1998 when he was hired as the network’s Atlanta bureau chief.

The couple has two sons together, Daniel and Paul Francis Baier.
Their son Paul was born with cardiac problems and had open-heart surgery in 2008.
Since his initial open-heart surgery, the 15-year-old has gotten a total of four open-heart operations.
In a 2023 interview with Daily Mail, Baier opened up about his son’s condition.
Baier said, “It turned out his heart was essentially pumping the wrong way. He had five significant heart defects, and if he didn’t get surgery in the first few days, he would die.
“So we went from the highest highs to the lowest lows in a really short time.”
He went on to reveal that despite Paul’s numerous surgeries, he seems to be on the latter end of this journey.
“He’s now had four open heart surgeries, 10 angioplasties, and a stomach surgery. We spent a lot of time in the hospital. And he’s doing great. He’s now 6’3′. I look up to him, literally,” he continued.
“Hopefully that’s the end of heart surgeries and he’s very healthy.”
That same year, Baier told The Hill that he celebrated two years since his son had to undergo open heart surgery.
“He’ll have more procedures that are much less serious, but still serious.”
