A 40-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal house fire on Friday morning in Hobart’s north.

Police and emergency services were called to the Sanders Street, Glenorchy home just before 7am on Friday.

The house was fully alight when crews arrived.

The fire was extinguished after 20 minutes, and a body was found inside.

A man, from the Hobart suburb of New Town, was taken into custody on Friday afternoon, and charged with murder on Sunday night.

The man was also charged with arson, motor vehicle stealing and unlawfully setting fire to property.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to face the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

Tasmania Police Detective Acting Inspector Nick Bowden said police were still seeking information or security camera footage from anyone who lives between the North Hobart end of Park Street and Risdon Road in New Town.

“We would like to thank those members of the public who have already come forward and responded to our appeal for assistance,” Detective Bowden said.
