YOU may have been washing your fruit all wrong, says one professional chef.

Rinsing fruits off with water is not enough, as pesticides may remain.

Mike, a Detroit 75 Kitchen chef (@detroit75kitchen) shared the trick in a video with over 170,000 TikTok followers.

“This is how you’re supposed to wash your berries to get rid of mold and pesticides,” he said.

“This is a must-learn, especially if you have kids at home.”

He added a cap full of white vinegar into a bowl of cold water and soaked the berries in the solution for about 15 minutes.

Afterward, Mike gave the berries a quick rinse and laid them out on a towel to dry.

People took to the comments to share their thoughts on the method.

Some tried it out for themselves but had trouble getting the fruit to agree.

“My raspberries always end up mush with this process. Even when I set them out to dry,” said one commenter.

Mike suggested adjusting the soak time for different kinds of fruit: “Try soaking them for less time, start with 7-10 minutes,” he said.

For those with a vinegar allergy, Mike revealed the baking soda worked just as well.

Some were curious about the most effective method: “Is this one better than the baking soda tip that you showed a while back?” asked one viewer.

“Not better, just different! Baking soda, white vinegar, and apple cider vinegar are all good go-to’s,” Mike replied.
