Man Utd player ratings: Alejandro Garnacho sparks epic second-half fightback but struggling Andre Onana’s woes continue

Occasional Digest - a story for you

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO was the star of the show as Manchester United came from behind to beat Aston Villa.

Villa took the lead at Old Trafford in the 21st minute into the match thanks to a never-before-seen free-kick tactic, which found its way past an under-performing Andre Onana.

The goal failed to wake United up as Villa quickly doubled their advantage five minutes later after Leander Dendoncker’s goal.

Alejandro Garnacho fired in a brace after half-time as he starred for the Red Devils in their comeback.

Rasmus Hojlund ended his goal duck in the Premier League as he fired in the winner in the 81st minute.

SunSport’s Lloyd Canfield has given his ratings of the Manchester United players.

Man United player ratings…

Andre Onana – 3

Didn’t come and claim John McGinn‘s cross for the first goal, and didn’t look overly confident throughout the game. Bought in for his distribution, but that was poor too. Really not good.

Aaron Wan Bissaka – 5

Looked calm and composed on the ball.

Good defensively when needed, but still lacks a threat going forward which is required from the modern day full-back.

Jonny Evans – 5

Not good enough at all in the first half, but turned things around in the second, including a great goal line clearance to deny John McGinn a second goal.

Raphael Varane – 5

Didn’t look up to scratch today, and was not the commanding presence we know he can be and saw against Liverpool.

Did get better in the second half, but far from his brilliant best.

Diego Dalot – 6

Played some nice forward passes, and looked creative from defence for United, but failed to really impact the game too much, was caused problems by Leon Bailey on the right hand side.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Showed some good moments of press resistance, and some good movement and passing too. Another good showing from the young man.

Christian Eriksen – 5

Seemed to consistently make the wrong decisions in the first half, which could be said for most of the Man Utd players out there.

Failed to be a threat on the attack, and didn’t really contribute defensively either.

Bruno Fernandes – 7

Gave away a silly free kick that led to John McGinn’s opener, complaining persistently throughout the game.

Did improve in the second half, and got the assist for Garnacho’s second goal, as well as a good set piece to create Hojlund’s winner. Some excellent passing on display.

Alejandro Garnacho – 8

Looked positive throughout the game, and was deserving of his brace. Two composed finishes and was the best player on the pitch for Man Utd today.

Constantly causing problems for the Villa defence.

Marcus Rashford – 7

Looked dangerous in both halves with a few shots on target and some good movement, failed to produce on a few occasions, but came up with a great cross for Garnacho’s first strike.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5

Looked a yard off the pace and like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders until the second half began.

His winning goal should do his confidence plenty of good, and was well taken on his left foot.
