She and her husband, former magazine editor Laurence Akers, launched a production company together called TeamAkers Productions.

It’s behind her upcoming ITV show Maryland, which launches in 2024.

She rose to fame as Karen McDonald in Coronation Street in 2000 before going on to star in hugely successful dramas including Doctor Foster and Gentleman Jack.

But Suranne has now revealed her ambition is not to star in future productions made by her company.

She said: “Me and my husband, we set up our production company and made Maryland and we just made our first documentary.

“We just got two commissions that will go into production next year.

“I love it. I’m hoping to eventually make projects that I’m not in. I can have a couple of tea and chill.

“It would be good to not do everything. But I’m very excited about our projects next year.”

Viewers were left disappointed by the return of Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie in Vigil’s second series.

DCI Amy Silva and her partner DI Kirsten Longacre were called up to investigate a drone attack on the RAF.

Seven soldiers were left dead after a weapon drone exercise at the Scottish military base in Dundair went terribly wrong when an unknown party took control of the object.

However, fans of the show were left unimpressed with ‘unrealistic’ plot and slammed the series on social media.
