A toddler has died after being hit by a car in Melbourne’s south-east.

Emergency services were called to McFees Road in Dandenong North just after midday on Sunday.

The two-year-old received CPR but died at the scene.

Aerial shots of the scene show a group of people sitting just outside an SES tent set up on the side of the road.

Several emergency service personnel can be seen carrying out their investigation and blocking the road from traffic.

Southbound lanes are closed before the Monash Freeway and McFees Road and the Stud Road inbound entry to the Monash Freeway is also closed.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are urging any witnesses or people with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.

Victoria Police said 281 lives have been lost on the state’s roads in 2023, 49 more than the same time last year.
