Confronting CCTV has been released showing the moments before and after a father and son were gunned down as they sat in their ute in Sydney’s west.
Key points:
- A father and son were shot in front of their of their home in October 2021
- Footage shows the gunman confront the pair before running to a getaway car
- Police are appealing to the public two years on from the alleged murder
Police hope the vision will help catch those who fatally shot Salim Hamze, 18, and his father Toufik Hamze, 64, on Osgood Street in Guildford shortly before 9am on October 19, 2021.
The victims can be seen getting into a red ute in front of their home, before a hooded man jumps out of a silver SUV parked on the street.
He then runs over to the ute and briefly falls over next to the driver’s side.
The video then stops just before he fires the gunshots into the driver’s side window, hitting both men as they sat in the car.
The gunman then runs back to the getaway car, which is being driven by someone else, before stopping again to fire more shots into the ute.
A woman and a young child can be seen in the vision in a neighbouring yard moments before the shooting.
The two victims were found slumped inside the vehicle, each having suffered several gunshot wounds.
NSW Police Homicide Commander Danny Doherty said police hoped the footage would prompt someone to come forward and identify the gunman and his getaway driver.
“Whilst the footage is confronting, its important that we show this to the public to assist with this investigation,” Superintendent Doherty said.
“We have been in contact with the Hamze family in relation to this footage and the time is now right, it’s been over two years since the murder.”
Salim died at the scene while Toufik was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital where he later died.
Police say the father was an “innocent man” who got caught in the hail of bullets aimed at his son who was involved in the underworld.
Four men, aged 18, 20, 23 and 25, have already been charged over their involvement and are before the courts.
Detectives allege the double murder was planned as part of a joint criminal enterprise.
“The men depicted in this footage who we believe are responsible for this double murder, they still need to be identified and that’s why we’re here today.,” Superintendent Doherty said.
“This was a violent act, it was an atrocious act.”
