All the holidays can also be booked with low deposits from £25pp, and there are even low monthly payment plans starting from £29.

Spain

Warm temperatures start way before May in Spain, making it a perfect destination for an early summer holiday.

Coastal destinations in mainland Spain see highs of 26C, with an average of 9 hours of sunshine every day.

The peak summer season here is mid-June, so early May is an excellent time to enjoy the destination with fewer crowds and lower prices.

To make it even better, flights from the UK to sunnier Spain have an average time of two and a half hours, so Brits could even go away for a weekend.

Canary Islands

The Canaries are considered a sunny destination all year round, so Brits can pick where to head.

Overall, the islands have an average temperature of 24C and almost no chance of rain. However, the weather will be slightly different in the islands.

May is considered a great month to explore and partake in outdoor activities as it will be warm but not hot like the peak summer months.

Sunbathing and swimming will also be on the cards, with sea temperatures around 20C.

The warmest islands to visit are Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with temperatures reaching over the mid-20s.

That is because Tenerife and Gran Canaria have a lot of mountains, making it a bit cooler.

Holiday packages in the islands are a bit pricier than in mainland Spain, starting from £261pp.

Here are the best ones we’ve spotted:

  • 7 nights self-catering at Chinyero Apartments in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife – from £261pp

Turkey

Turkey is one of Brits’ favourite summer destinations, thanks to its many resorts, cheap deals and sunny days.

And Brits looking to bag a bargain should visit in May when temperatures will be already hitting highs of 26C.

The only downside is a slight chance of rain, but it’s still very unlikely to last for the whole day.

May is considered peak season in Istanbul, but it’s not in the coastal areas.

Most resorts are in Antalya, Bodrum and Marmaris, which also happen to be the warmest destinations.

The sea will be warm enough to swim in, but the mild temperatures will allow for outdoor activities and exploring.

At the beginning of May, the country also celebrates the Hidrellez Festival on May 5 and 6, so there might be street performances to enjoy.

The best deals we’ve found in May start from £190pp:

  • 7 nights self-catering at Kaan Apartments in Marmaris, Turkey – from £190pp
  • 7 nights self-catering at Ekinci Palace in Icmeler, Turkey – from £191pp

The Black Sea coast is where to be, with popular resorts like Sunny Beach and Saint Vlas.

Sunny Beach is perfect for families, with waterparks, theme parks and tranquil beaches.

The region has three Blue Flag beaches,

Thanks to the mild climate, visitors could also take a day trip to Nessebar, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city.

Or the Balkan Mountains with waterfalls and caves.
