It saw Niamh Algar play the role of Dr Lucinda Edwards who found herself in hot water when a patient in her care died.

Viewers watched as the frontline medic faced an investigation following the death.

But while the show has been green lit for another run, its lead star Niamh won’t return to the A&E.

Instead the new series will focus on a completely new case – with Helen Behan and Jordan Kouamé both reprising their roles.

Also returning is former NHS doctor Grace Ofori-Attah who wrote the first series, based on her own experiences on the frontline.

Speaking about Malpractice’s return, she said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing another series of Malpractice to TV screens alongside Polly and the fantastic team at World.

“I can’t wait to delve into a new and exciting area of medicine, exploring the complex bonds and divisions within hospital teams that push our characters to their limits.”

Teasing the new series, ITV‘s head of drama said there’s “an exciting new story exploring a new medical malpractice to grip the audience all over again”.

Polly Hill added: “A huge thanks to Simon and everyone at World who made the first series the brilliant and unmissable drama that Malpractice became.”

Fans had previously been left enraged at the first series for what they noticed was a ‘string of errors’ with the plot.

The first series of Malpractice is available to stream now on ITVX.
