Who is Denzel Washington’s wife Pauletta? 

Pauletta Washington is an American actress born on September 28, 1950.

The couple met on the set of the television film Wilma in 1977 and got married shortly after. 

She is best known for her roles in Philadelphia, Antwone Fisher, and Steps. 

She is the sister of actress Rita Pearson, who has also starred in films with Denzel Washington.

Pauletta and Denzel began dating in the late 1970s and married in 1983.

The couple met on the set of the television film Wilma in 1977 and Denzel confessed to Access Hollywood in 2013 that he proposed more than once because Pauletta turned him down a few times.

“Why was it twice? Why would I have to ask again?” Denzel said to Pauletta. 

“Because I said no!” Pauletta replied. 

“You heard it here first!” Denzel joked.

“She turned me down, she said no, and since it was three times, that means she turned me down twice.”

They renewed their vows in 1995 in South Africa in a ceremony officiated by cleric Desmond Tutu.

Do they have children? 

The couple has four children: John David, Katia, and twins Olivia and Malcolm.

John David was a football player but pursued a career in acting and went on to star in BlacKkKlansman, Ballers, and Tenet.

In an interview with Metro, Denzel said he had no idea his son wanted to be an actor.

“I was the last one to know, actually,” he said. “I didn’t see it coming at all. I mean, he was a professional football player also – but I just didn’t see it coming, with my oldest son.”

Similarly, Olivia played a role in Lee Daniels’s film The Butler and Denzel continuously bragged about his children’s success.

“My youngest son is a filmmaker, my oldest daughter’s a producer, my other daughter’s an actress,” he told Metro, adding, “Not that I’m bragging!”

What Oscar nomination did Denzel Washington receive?

Denzel Washington was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor on January 8, 2022.

The prolific actor has starred in a number of films, most recently in The Little Things and The Tragedy of Macbeth.

It was for the latter film that he received the 2022 Oscar nomination for his role as the lead character, Macbeth.

“The Tragedy of Macbeth was one of the best experiences of my career,” Denzel said in a statement to People.

He added, “Joel Coen is a genius and I hope the nominations for the film will allow for more people to enjoy a terrific cinematic experience.

“Thank you to the members of the Academy for the recognition and to A24 and Apple for their ongoing support.”

Denzel is a two-time Oscar award winner. In 2023, he starred in The Equalizer 3.
