Occasional Digest - a story for you

FORMER Corrie star Helen Flanagan has backed The Sun’s Cosy At Christmas campaign to help keep children warm this winter.

Last week we launched our big drive, asking you to donate money or new and good-quality pre-loved warm clothing, including coats, jumpers and nightwear, to your local baby bank.

The banks provide essentials such as nappies, clothes, toys and prams to families in need with kids aged up to five.

We have teamed up with Save The Children UK, baby bank group Little Village and more than 200 other baby banks nationwide to help struggling mums and dads this Christmas.

Little Village has helped more than 26,000 children since it launched in 2016.

TV star Helen, 33, who shares daughters Matilda, eight, Delilah, four, and two-year-old Charlie with footballer ex Scott Sinclair, said: “Becoming a mother is a life-changing experience and it is all the more challenging if you are unable to provide the basics.

“It breaks my heart that there are parents in the UK unable to afford warm clothes or give their kids Christmas gifts.

“It’s hugely important to help those families in need. That’s why I’m backing Cosy At Christmas.”

Here’s how you can help:

DONATIONS: Baby banks desperately need warm clothing to help kids through winter. This includes pyjamas, woolly jumpers, coats, socks and hats.

TIME: The charity groups rely on volunteers to help with everything from sorting clothes and driving vans to working with families.

You can give as little as an hour per week of your time.

MONEY: Your cash will help a baby bank buy essential items such as mattresses and nappies, or rent premises to store donated items and provide space to see the families they support.

Becca Lyon, of Save The Children UK, says: “Baby banks have become a lifeline for many families, supplying babies and young children with essentials they would otherwise go without, and The Sun’s support for them will make such a difference.”
