The newest engine deal in Formula 1 for its next era has been signed, with Mercedes-Benz agreeing to continue as McLaren’s engine supplier.

McLaren is currently a customer of Mercedes-Benz for their power unit, with the deal being extended to 2030.

This means they will be partners for the next major regulation change in the sport, which will come into effect in 2026.

“The extension signifies the confidence that our shareholders and the wider team have in their powertrains and the direction we’re taking with them into the new era of regulations ahead,” McLaren chief executive Zak Brown said.

“We have been successful together, both in the last three seasons and when they previously powered the team, so we look forward to the success to come as we continue our journey to fight consistently at the front of the grid.”

The current deal between the two began in 2021. McLaren used Mercedes engines from 1995 to 2014.

Mercedes engines have been the dominant force in F1 since 2014.

Mercedes-powered cars have won 114 of the 203 grands prix since the start of 2014, including eight constructors’ championships for the factory-Mercedes team.

McLaren’s last grand prix win — Daniel Ricciardo’s triumph at Monza in 2021 — was with a Mercedes powertrain.

“McLaren have been fierce and fair competitors since 2021, especially in the second half of this season,” head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, Toto Wolff said.

“McLaren’s strong performances underline the importance of transparent and equal supply to all customer teams in the sport if we wish to achieve the goal of 10 teams capable of fighting for podium finishes.”

This season, Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams have used a Mercedes-Benz powertrain.

Ferrari engines have been used by Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Haas.

Alpine is powered by Renault, while Red Bull and AlphaTauri use the Red Bull Power Train, built by Honda.

Red Bull announced in February they would be partnering with American automotive giant Ford, who are returning to F1 in 2026.
