Holders Scotland moved closer to qualification for the men’s European Curling Championship semi-finals with wins over Netherlands and Turkey.

Bruce Mouat’s rink sit second in the round-robin table with six wins after eight of their nine matches, with unbeaten Italy already qualified after eight straight wins.

Scotland beat the Dutch 9-4 and Turkey 10-3 and face Finland on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Scotland’s women boosted their hopes by beating Estonia 6-4.

Rebecca Morrison’s rink along with Norway and Sweden have five wins from eight games.

Thursday’s final game against Marianne Roervik’s Norwegians is likely to be a decider in pursuit of one of the two remaining semi-final spots – a game that will be streamed live on the BBC Sport website and app at 09:00 GMT.

“We played brilliantly,” Morrison told BBC Scotland after the win over Estonia. “There were lots of good shots and we had a couple of ends where we managed to get our multiples on the board.

“It gives us a lot of confidence going into our final round-robin game. Lose and I think we’re out and win and we’re in. It’s basically our quarter-final.

“It’s a ‘must-win’ situation from here on out if we want to get that gold medal this week.

“I reckon it’ll be a close game and it’s just going to come down to a few key moments here and there. They’re a brilliant team so we’re expecting a fight out there.”
