Occasional Digest - a story for you

A translation snafu has given China Eastern Airlines an unwanted viral moment.

An English translation of its business class menu has an item printed as ‘Imported dog food with okra.’

It has caused a lot of social media discussion, jokes and memes.

The mistranslation blunder left passengers baffled.

It came on a menu beside grilled steak, a seafood stew, and stir-fried chicken but there were other questionable translations too.

These included ‘mushroom juice’ and ‘vanilla shrimp.’

These seemed to confuse netizens even more, struggling to second guess what the intended meanings were.

The airline hasn’t yet responded.
