MANCHESTER UNITED fans heaped praise on summer signing Altay Bayindir after he made a cheeky comment during an interview.

Bayindir, 25, joined the Red Devils in a £4.3million transfer from Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day but is yet to make a competitive appearance.

However, he recently managed to get a host of fans onside by taking aim at several Premier League clubs.

During an interview with MUTV the goalkeeper was asked whether or not Man Utd are the most popular English team in Turkey.

He responded by saying: “Yeah of course. Manchester United are number one, and second one…

“We don’t have a second one I think, just Manchester United.”

Fans took to social media to react to Bayindir’s comment, with one person writing: “I’m in love with Altay!”

Another commented: “I love him 😂.”

A third fan wrote: “Something about this guy I really like.”

While a fourth added: “Idk why I love him. he’s so likeable and he’s done nothing yet.”

Bayindir went on to reveal that he idolised Man Utd legend Edwin van der Sar growing up.

He added: “My favourite goalkeeper is Edwin van der Sar, he is a legend. I watched a lot of Manchester United games.”

The Turkey international could make his Man Utd debut this weekend when the Red Devils travel to Goodison Park to face Everton.

Erik ten Hag‘s first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana picked up a groin injury while on international duty with Cameroon last week.

He was subsequently forced to withdraw from the squad after undergoing tests with the medical team.

The 27-year-old is now at risk of being sidelined for a number of weeks.
