As air fares skyrocket and plane seats shrink, passengers are still hoping old tricks around asking nicely for an upgrade will work for them.

But if you’re tempted to try tips like flirting with the air hostesses – be warned, as a woman has advised against it.

Destanie Armstrong shared to thousands of users the reason commercial airlines don’t offer upgrades.

She posted the video in response to a question from one of her followers asking how often flight attendants switch passengers into first class.

The 25-year-old said: “We never allow that. If someone wants to wants to switch cabins or even get an upgrade, that’s to be dealt with by the gate agent.”

The air hostess explained the process of transferring seats is not managed by her team.

“Flight attendants do not deal with any of that,” she continued.

Destaine said travellers‘ attempts to wing their way into priority seating will be in vain as chairs are filled by travellers who can afford them.

She said: “Usually first class is always full. So, people don’t really have the room to pull some stupid stuff like sneaking a seat.”

However, the tiktoker revealed people can get first class seats on are rare occasions.

She said top-tier seat can become available only for frequent flyers or for those with a few airline credits to blow.

“If you have a credit card or if you have some status with the airline, [gate attendants] usually end up upgrading people by the time the flight is ready to take off,” she said.

It comes as a flight attendant revealed why giving passengers a free seat upgrade could get cabin crew members fired.

Asking for an upgrade is always a big risk, and not just for the passengers who are gambling for a better place to sit.

Elsewhere, a passenger was shamed by cabin crew for using a social media trick to secure empty row.

TikTok user Sophie, who is known as Boredsoap on the social media platform, revealed in a video that she’d been shamed by a member of the cabin crew for trying to keep the seat next to her free.

Meanwhile, a flight attendant has revealed how to get a first class upgrade for free – and it’s all down to your choice of seat.

The airline worker took to social media to let customers in on a secret hack that could make their trip more enjoyable.
