Occasional Digest - a story for you

AN EERIE Ford graveyard has recently been unearthed and the tragic reason why it was abandoned has now been revealed.

The garage was full of brand new ’80s fords – each coated in a thick layer of dust – but until now it was a mystery as to why the marvellous motors went to waste.

Auto Retro have now done a follow-up video to the initial discovery of the deserted dealership.

The garage opened in Germany in the 1960s as a franchised Ford dealer and is said to have been the main in the city.

But the owner, Joseph Stock, found it difficult to keep up with the hometown manufacturer Audi.

Apparently, the German brand handed out huge discounts to those in the city, making it hard for any other brand to compete.

Apparently, Ford wouldn’t take back any unsold cars from stock, leaving Joseph with a collection of unsold and unused cars over the years.

Eventually, in the mid-’80s, Ford pulled the plug on Auto-Stock as an official dealer, and left it to stand alone as an independent business.

Following Stock’s death in the ‘90s, his family were said to be left with a stash of at least 300 cars – with around half unused Fords.

His widow soon closed the dealership but struggled to sell the remaining then cars.

For unknown reasons, Mrs Stock put aside seven cars for her grandchildren, six of which remain in the showroom to this day.

Another shocking discovery was made when A Ferrari and a Shelby Cobra worth £2.8million were found in a deserted barn and were left untouched for 27 years.

Sitting in the rundown garage infested with mice and crickets, Ben Cotter discovered two of the most exceptional supercars of their time: a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/2 and 1967 Shelby Cobra 427.
