The mechanic, from Walsall Wood Tyre & Service in Walsall, recommended fitting a set of winter tyres.

Winter tyres can make a difference in slippy and icy conditions, and some manufacturers make all-season tyres if you don’t want to change them every time cold weather rolls around.

He explained: “I want to talk about the importance of changing our tyres over for the winter and having a more dedicated tyre for cold weather driving.

“There’s all season tyres and there’s winter tyres. The majority of people tend to run summer tyres.

“In Europe, there are a lot of countries where it is mandatory for you to change over to winter tyres.

“Not so much in this country but there are major benefits to that.

“Cold weather driving tyres are designed for the cold roads, not just for snow although that’s what you would think so but a lot more towards cold weather driving full stop.

“We see a massive difference in driving and handling aspects. It’s just an all round safer option.”
