Jonnie continued: “Been on drips, regular bloods taken and have observations every 4 ours through day and night.

“Didn’t think I’d be watching @bbcmorninglive from a hospital bed but it’s just part of the roller coaster life that this illness throws at you I must admit I was especially touched by the birthday message from the the team for my birthday this coming Friday- thanks very much.”

The father-of-three is likely to be experiencing his final birthday when he turns 50 this week after telling his followers before that doctors had told him that this upcoming Christmas would likely be his last.

Looking to the future, he told how he had a further appointment that could lead to some positive news.

Jonnie said: “I have another scan today followed by a meeting with my oncologist so fingers crossed for positive news.”

The A Place in the Sun host was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, and has been given just months to live.

He shares three year old twins Rafa and Cormac with wife Jess as well as their five year old son, Rex.

Asked if his kids understand how unwell he is, he previously told the Daily Mail: “Not yet. When I’m more frail or in bed for days we might.

“If you have 20 days left, why spend them in mourning and confusion? Why not just have 15 days of pure, blissful ignorance and five days of knowing the facts?

“I’m not looking forward to the chat with Rex. We’re still thinking about it. I’ve learnt that it’s best to do nothing if you’re unsure.”
