Those on the south west coast of England will be affected first as wet and wild conditions travel up from the Channel.

As the day progresses, downpours are predicted to lash Northern Ireland and the Midlands, before reaching the north east and Scotland by early evening.

Brits should also brace themselves for a frosty morning as figures drop as low as -1C in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Other major cities including Manchester, Leeds, York and Sheffield are also forecast temperatures hovering just above 0C.

And, the near-freezing conditions are expected to be felt as far south as Cambridge.

By midday the south coast of England is due to rise into double figures, while the majority of the UK remains between 5C and 8C.

Met Office forecasters estimate crisp highs of 12C on the southwest coast, and icy lows of -1C in Edinburgh.

On Monday a yellow weather warning for rain has been issued covering parts of Northern Ireland.

Met Office meteorologists have put the notice in force from 3am until 2pm and stated: “Heavy rain is likely to affect parts of Northern Ireland during Monday bringing disruption to travel.”

Those affected by the alert can expect, “spray and flooding” causing difficult driving conditions.

Meanwhile persistent rainfall could lead to “delays of cancellations to train services” and there is a “small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded”.

“There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads,” the Met Office website added.

The yellow band of rain is forecast to move across from Belfast into Scotland throughout the morning.

Those in cities such as Manchester and Newcastle should also take an umbrella with them as some areas are set to be battered by frequent downpours.

Meanwhile, the majority of the southern England is set to remain dry.

The rain is also due to bring slightly warmer weather and thaw the frost from Sunday.

By midday most of the UK will be experiencing double figures at around 10C.
